Preventive Dental Care

Preventive dentistry is the area of dentistry concerned with preventing dental problems before they become costly, painful or both. At Chelmsford Dental Group, a large part of preventive dentistry is patient education. This includes learning proper at-home dental care, managing oral health, and nutrition, etc. Another aspect of preventive dentistry is oral hygiene through regular dental cleanings, fluoride treatments, mouthguards & more, which helps you maintain your oral health and prevents dental issues.

Prophylaxis (Dental Cleanings)

Prophylaxis is a cleaning performed by a trained dental hygienist to thoroughly clean your gums & teeth. At Chelmsford Dental Group, our hygiene program is the foundation of our comprehensive dental care program. Proper dental cleanings stop the progression of gingivitis & periodontal disease.

Regular hygiene appointments not only keep your mouth & body healthy, but also keep significant dental problems from arising. Our staff of hygienists will remove Tartar & Plaque, polish your teeth & give you instructions for home care.

Oral Exams & Digital X-rays

All patients at Chelmsford Dental Group go through a comprehensive oral exam. Complete oral exam includes:

  • Low-radiation Digital X-rays
  • Smile Analysis
  • Oral Cancer Screening
  • Gum Disease Evaluation
  • Decay Screening
  • Occlusion Analysis

The doctor will review all results & answer all your questions & concerns.

Sealants

A dental sealant is a thin plastic coating applied on the chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent tooth decay. The sealant bonds into the grooves of the teeth, forming a protective shield over the enamel of each tooth. It protects tooth decay by “sealing out” plaque & food in younger kids who are cavity prone, between the ages 6-14 years of age. Sealants are also recommended to adults with deep grooves on the biting surfaces of their back teeth.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer screening is performed on all patients during your comprehensive oral exam at Chelmsford Dental Group. Our doctors, with help of special tools if required, are trained to identify any growths & lesions, which need to be further evaluated.
